Thought it was time to put my head on the block and start a cross class discussion. My recent backgrounds in WoW. I've been healing in that game (mostly) for some time. My main is the retired Aerr who's currently parked on Uther server... she's one of my priests, she's T9, blah blah, pretty experienced, ex raid heals leader etc. ( Boring I know sorry : ( ). So yes I'm well acquainted with std wow raid/party healing strategies. On Aerr I would (dutifully) NEVER dps, would stay at max ranged, be mobile to avoid fires etc etc. I pvp and pve healed on her. What is important here though is that Aerr the wow holy priest is not Aerryn the Aion cleric. Wow and like games reward all players in a kill equally. Aion rewards performance. It does not reward spectators. My performance is measured by my contribution to my group. To be assessed as performing well I should be healing members of my group (not other groups). If I'm not healing them I should be doing "something else" which is productive. Standing there "conserving mana" is spectating. Spectators aren't heroes. Heroes aren't rewarded or are rewarded less. So if you find yourself grouped with a cleric and you find yourself saying "just stand there and heal/dispel/whatever" you are doing your healer (fellow group member!) a very great disservice.

But it's worth mentioning for pple who don't have a cleric yet. We have an apparent melee attack called Hallowed Strike. It places an attack speed debuff on the mob. In groups where I don't have a chanter and the mobs doesn't have killer localised AoE, whenever possible I will close with my tank and try to include maintaining that debuff while maintaining my healing. Because an attack speed debuff is one of my two current mechanisms for damage mitigation (my Blinding Light stigma is my other). Of course I can max range it when I have a chanter. But telling me to do that when I don't is limiting my spell choice and my effectiveness as  an aion cleric.
